President’s Message:

Dear Members and Colleagues,

As the President of the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin – Sleep (AAPIOS), it is with immense pleasure that I address you today at this pivotal juncture in our esteemed organization’s journey. Since its inception thirteen years ago, AAPIOS has steadfastly served as a vital forum for exchanging ideas and enhancing awareness about sleep disorders in both the United States and India. Our commitment, particularly to the Asian-Indian community, is driven by the understanding that Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) affects the South Asian demographic at a rate similar to the U.S., despite a lower incidence of obesity.

Our association takes pride in the involvement of approximately two thousand physicians of Indian origin in the field of Sleep Medicine across the United States. Their expertise and unwavering dedication have been the cornerstone of our progress and influence in this niche medical specialty.

I would like to express my deepest appreciation to our past presidents, Dr. Umakanth Katwa and Anuj Chandra for their exceptional leadership and vision. Their efforts have been pivotal in propelling AAPIOS to remarkable heights and establishing a solid groundwork for our future endeavors.

I sincerely hope as AAPIOS new president my profound dedication to Sleep Medicine will steer AAPIOS towards new horizons of success and achievement. In addition, I am delighted to welcome the new executive committee and their collective expertise and leadership will be vital to our organization’s continued growth and making a significant impact in the Sleep society.

As we venture ahead, let us renew our dedication to advancing the field of Sleep Medicine and strive to nurture a community that champions research, education, and collaborative initiatives in this vital healthcare sector.

Sincerely,

Dr. Guatam Samadder, MD

President American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin – Sleep
